Local Communities
Municipality of Gampern.
With a population growth of around 700 inhabitants over the past 25 years, the municipality of Gampern in Austria is well above the national growth rate. Municipal infrastructure is in a constant state of change and growth.
The development of residential areas and an industrial estate are only part of the current tasks and challenges being faced by the community. To ensure quality of life in Gampern with a steady increase in population, a comprehensive, future-oriented investment programme is required.
The task
The municipality of Gampern had been planning to digitise old construction files. The idea had been around for a long time but really solidified once the demands faced by a modern-day administration continued to grow.
The availability of information is becoming increasingly important, even for smaller communities. The construction files include documents for construction projects throughout the municipal area. The average construction file contains around 35 DIN A4 pages and a plan, which can take various formats, from DIN A4 to DIN A0.
The oldest files date back to the 1940s. The information in the building files is of great importance to the community since current projects often involve expansions and conversions.
The physical construction files were stored in REISSWOLF archive boxes and handed over to REISSWOLF Austria for digitisation.
“In addition to the high quality and fast implementation, our complete offer, including pick-up and recovery of the construction files, as well as the attractive price, were all key deciding factors in our favour,”, said Siegfried Schmedler, Managing Director REISSWOLF Austria.
When the project began, the construction files were collected in batches as agreed with the client and brought to REISSWOLF for digitisation. Scanning was done using high-performance scanners and plan scanners designed specially to handle large formats. This allowed the project to be completed in a short period of time. The real challenge was the varying quality of the originals – but the scanning process was able to improve this quality.
The data was transferred to the REISSWOLF f.i.t. cloud archive, which ensured that the construction files that had already been digitised for the municipality of Gampern were immediately available in real time.
The scanned data underwent spot checks by the client, and the original construction files were returned to the client after digitisation.
Customer benefits
Before digitising the files, engaging in any kind of targeted search for construction files was a time-consuming process for the customer. This search was often made even more difficult because plans were not filed back in their correct location. In addition, the plans were often in cumbersome and varying formats.
All this has come to an end with digitisation. Today, the files are stored digitally in the secure REISSWOLF f.i.t. cloud archive, which ensures immediate access, even with multiple users at the same time from different locations, and the difference in formats no longer matters.
Customer feedback
“The project proceeded to our absolute satisfaction – from structured questions, to the coordination, to swift implementation. We were also impressed with the speed at which the documents were recorded and scanned. We wouldn’t hesitate to use this service again,” says Martin Gehmaier, Construction Department/Engineering.
“Now it’s up to us to assign all the construction files to the right property and owners, who have naturally changed a lot over the last 70 years.”
